Immigrant Voices

There are over 11 million people in the United States without proper documentation; that is about 3.5% of our population. Over 2 million reside in California alone. They are our neighbors, our friends, our co-workers, woven into the rich tapestry that is our society. Their hopes and dreams, struggles and fears are our own. Immigrant Voices is is a radio project out of Arcata, CA that captured several of their representative stories. Some guests were undocumented, some had residency, one was a newly minted US citizen, three are DACA students pursuing their degrees here. One was deported two days after being recorded. They hailed from Mexico, Columbia, El Salvador, Peru, Guatemala and the Philippines. Real names are not used. Some stories are narrated by proxy vocal talent. The HSU Translation Club provided English transcripts of stories recorded in Spanish. Please share these artifacts in any social or educational setting.
