To help someone teaching about rescuers
Oliner, Samuel P.
The personal stories of rescuers; three people who have risked their lives to save virtual strangers recount their experiences. Samuel Oliner gives an outline of his story of rescue and how it influenced his life as professor and director of the institute that studies rescuers and their motivations for helping others. As the two women rescuers tell their stories of the Holocaust, footage of the Nazi treatment of Jews during World War II, combined with historical commentary by Oliner, is interspersed to add further dimension to the individual's remarks. A rescuer in the Los Angeles, California riots of 1992 shares his experience and reveals his motivations and concerns about ethics and compassion.

Oliner, Samuel P.; Krause, Jerrald D.
This research consists of a sample of 220 adults from six different ethnic groups, including European Americans, African Americans, Native Americans, Asian Americans, Latino Americans and Jewish Americans. The purpose was to examine the feelings, attitudes, perceptions and opinions that each of the six groups had of the others, and to what extent the minority groups "fit in" this rural community and the degree of tolerance they have experienced. The sample, consisting of adults, including students from Humboldt State University, was drawn from the communities in Humboldt County, located in Northern California.
