Puberty and sex education resources for children with developmental disabilities

The researcher created and disseminated a questionnaire to parents and primary legal caregivers of minor clients of the Redwood Coast Regional Center (RCRC) to explore parent attitudes, beliefs, concerns, and hopes about puberty and sex education regarding their children with developmental disabilities, identify barriers to discussing sex education topics with their children, and identify barriers to accessing sex education resources. Upon gathering and coding the responses using constructivist grounded theory, the researcher prepared and delivered a presentation for parents and caregivers about the puberty and sex education resources available online and in Humboldt County. The presentation gave parents a safe space to see for themselves some locally available materials.
